Future competitions:
Regretfully, during this meeting and without any pre-warning, the Portugese Parachute Federation pulled out their bid to host all World Cup competitions this year. (Formation Skydiving, Canopy Formation and Artistic Events). Therefore, the IPC stands without an organiser for a World Cup this year. The process of obtaining a new bid is now that the bidding process has been reopened, and potential organisers have until March 1st to prepare a bid and submit to the IPC. The Bureau of the IPC is empowered to decide upon these bids, and would at best be able to award a bid within a week after this deadline, to give both competitors and organisers the maximum time advantage to prepare for the new situation.
It is extremely unsatisfactory that bids are pulled at such a late time, but now nothing can be done with that. But, to alleviate the possibilities, the IPC has decided to review any bid that is submitted, even if it does not completely contain to the regulations for organising competitions within the Sporting Code. Thus, a bid where the organisers may be able to organise the competition, but may want the competitors themselves to arrange transport and accommodation, will be reviewed together with other bids including these elements. It is important for the IPC to be able to hold competitions this year, and every effort will be made to work in the direction that the competitors will have a competition to go to.
The Mondial in 2003 in Gap, France is still on track. More information on this competition will be available later.
Finally, I would also like to inform that I have retired the position of Chair in the FS Committee, and would like to thank you all for 9 years of challenging and interesting work and all the inputs received through the years. The new FS Committee chair is Fiona McEachern from Austraila.(fiona@ezy.net.au). I wish her luck with the future work, and ask you all to support her in her new position. Communication with the committee can as usual be made through the ipc list at: ipc-fsky@fai.org.
I will be continuing to work for the IPC for the development of our sport in other areas, and hope that we all can enjoy future events like the World Games in Akita again both in the World Games format and to see more competitions being introduced to bring us even closer to the
Olympics.
